Billy Connolly: I’m all for plastic surgery

Billy Connolly has joked he is “all for” plastic surgery.

The 69-year old comedian stars in Dustin Hoffman’s directional debut Quartet. The movie is set in a home for retired opera singers who hold an annual concert to celebrate Verdi’s birthday.

The award-winning star shared his opinions on what it’s like for actors ageing in Hollywood at a Quartet premiere which was held at the BFI London Film Festival on Monday.

“Ooh yes very, very much so, it’s very unfair,” Billy revealed to Cover Media when asked if it’s harder for women to age in the film industry. “I don’t know why they do it [use Botox] look at Maggie Smith. People go crazy for her so there’s no decent reason why not to use women in Hollywood as they age.
“If you’re sensible and mature then the type of beauty changes. If you like, [turn to plastic surgery] I’m all for it. Get yourself another nose. Not you!”

The Scottish star plays Wilf alongside British actress Maggie Smith who stars as Jean, and legendary actor Michael Gambon who portrays Cedric.
Billy joked about how different the experience of making Quartet was for him, as he was the youngest member of the lead cast. The comic star also revealed how his tastes have changed as he has aged.

“Yes I’m an opera fan, it took me by surprise but my wife forced me into it,” Billy laughed. “Ballet as well, that’s two of the biggest surprises in my life.”
