Christine Lahti gets a makeover

I received the following email earlier today.

Hi,

What the hell happened to Christine Lahti? I saw her on Law and Order
recently & she is wearing a freaking mask!!!

Fewer wrinkles

Fewer wrinkles

Investigating revealed that Christine Lahti is the latest celebrity to get the anti-aging works. Her neck is less wrinkled, the under eye bags are gone, her cheeks are fuller, there is no trace of loose jowls anymore. Everything has been tightened, which too bad, I liked the old softness in her face.

Aging actresses don’t seem to realize that they can still look good with wrinkles. It freaks me out to see a woman in her fifties without wrinkles (unless they are my mom, or like my mom, and just don’t have that many wrinkles naturally). If they smile and their face is frozen, they look like witches. I doubt this is a trend that will end any time soon, though….

I think she looks rather nice. She didn’t go overboard, or do anything to her lips (thank goodness). She still has some crows feet, and she doesn’t look all shiny and waxy. Just a nice rested look.

Comment by Mike — October 27, 2009 at 7:20 am

If she did have surgery (I say if because the lighting is wildly different in the before/after pics) it looks like a good job … it looks like sun damage and not wrinkles were her big problem in the 2005 pics

Comment by leo — October 27, 2009 at 7:38 am

These pictures do now show how extreme she looks. I, too, was watching Law and Order and was so distracted by her face (and lack of movement) that I just missed half the story. I used to love that show but now I’m too distracted and taken out of the story by her.

Comment by mr,ed — October 27, 2009 at 7:41 am

It’s a competitive business. Any advantage she can gain could be worth the investment. Knocking off a few years appearance to get more jobs is a gamble many are driven to take.

Comment by Patrice — October 27, 2009 at 8:17 am

Thank God someone finally reported on this!! I never even used to watch her on “The West Wing”, but as soon as I saw her first appearance on “SVU” I knew SOMETHING was up…Her mouth is entirely odd when she speaks like her cheeks are stuffed with cotton or something. I’m glad she only had a short stint on the show; it was just too weird to watch.

Whatever.

Why the heck does she HAVE to look old?

Actresses are women too! No one wants to age so obviously.

Comment by Marusya — October 27, 2009 at 8:36 am

* does she HAS…

[typo]

Comment by Barbara — October 27, 2009 at 8:55 am

Mostly every picture of these “stars” hsve them looking better in the before picture, or Is it just me?

Comment by Anais — October 27, 2009 at 8:59 am

No, the sentence construction is “does she HAVE to look so old,” not “does she HAS to look so old.” The verb phrase is “does have.” “Does has” sounds weird and is not correct. But back to Ms. Lahti. I don’t think she looks so bad, just refreshed.
Also, I do not think the photo of Kathleen Sibelius belongs on this Web site. She did NOT have plastic surgery, she had life-saving CANCER surgery. This was not elective and designed to make her look better. It was designed to get rid of a tumor. Shame on you for equating a hardworking public servant with vain television and movie stars. I hope eventually the kind of plastic surgery that makes a real difference can help her look more symmetrical when she recovers.

Comment by Act — October 27, 2009 at 9:05 am

^ Did you read the post at all? The blogmaster acknowledged that it was a cancer treatment and not a botched surgery. Based on the wording (“many people thought”) I think it’s pretty safe to presume that people were sending in e-mails about her and the post was made to clear things up. No one was “equating” her procedure with plastic surgery, just the opposite.

Comment by leo — October 27, 2009 at 9:15 am

Marusya, no doubt every woman has the right to try to look anyway she wants – but when someone is an actress they need to take into account the fact that their looks (and artificiality) is going to take the viewer out of the story and make us think about them personally, instead of the story. It must be very hard for actresses known for their looks to age – but that’s life, and trying to turn back time with surgery and botox has its consequences.

Comment by Alexis — October 27, 2009 at 9:40 am

I don’t watch much TV, so I can’t say what her face looks like in motion. In these photos though, I don’t think she looks bad so much as mis-matched. Her nose went with her old face and now looks oddly large and mis-shapen in the new one.

Comment by Pam — October 27, 2009 at 10:27 am

The Sebelius picture made you wonder if she had bad botox (nancy pelosi) or some kind of terrible eye infection. It was not wrong to post it and give the explanation as to why? It hurt me to look at her face, I wonder if she was in any pain.

Christine Lahti had a nice, normal look to her. Her before picture is much prettier. That last picture looks like a wax figure.

Comment by Anais — October 27, 2009 at 11:06 am

I did read the post. But because it was so different in tone from the other posts — serious as opposed to critical — I still maintain it does not belong on this site.

Comment by genna — October 27, 2009 at 2:03 pm

She looks way too puffy, imo. I actually like her with wrinkles, she just glows naturally with those wrinkles. Because of her surname i googled her and checked out wikipedia and yes indeed, she has her roots in Finland! I’m a Finn myself, so, it was a surprise that i hadn’t heard of her before. Maybe because i’m not really in the age group that watches Law & Order.

Comment by Marieke — October 27, 2009 at 2:55 pm

To me she looks fine. There are still some wrinkles left. Good job.

Comment by mamallama — October 27, 2009 at 3:13 pm

I have to say, whoever did her surgery did a good job. She looks smoothed out, but still recognizable, so I’d say it was a success.

Comment by MG — October 27, 2009 at 3:14 pm

I think she looks fine too. I’m with Mike. Not sure if the lighting is different or not. She is still a very attractive lady.

Comment by Frau Blucher — October 27, 2009 at 4:22 pm

I saw it too…I agree. Her face barely moves and looks like a wax mask! I always thought she was very pretty…too bad.

Comment by Brooke — October 27, 2009 at 6:36 pm

In the first set it almost looks like it’s the lighting that makes her skin look different. It was the bottom set that really got me– it looks like someone took a blur tool to her face on Photoshop. I think she came out looking kinda masculine… the wrinkled pic on the left looks much much much better in my opinion.

A lot of people seem to be commenting on the picture of the woman who had an eye problem… I think that was comments off, right? I think that was a respectable thing to do of the webmaster.

Comment by Robyne00 — October 27, 2009 at 9:06 pm

She looks harsh, but folks please remember … shes not 21 …

Comment by Frau Blucher — October 27, 2009 at 9:17 pm

well time marches on, it doesn’t mean you should get mummified.

Comment by halla — October 27, 2009 at 10:28 pm

As long as she’s taking a photo, she’s fine. But her face doesn’t move, and that scared me on SVU. It’s like her cheeks have rigor mortis.

Comment by Mary — October 28, 2009 at 8:14 am

I’m surprised she had this done…she’s been hawking Olay products for years, and how they work without resorting to surgery…That said, she doesn’t look bad, but it does look like she had cheek implants, and that part she really didn’t need…

Comment by Christi — October 28, 2009 at 10:17 am

I think she looks good, one of the better jobs I have seen.

Comment by Lindaj — October 28, 2009 at 10:37 am

I think she looks refreshed…………………..

Comment by anony — October 28, 2009 at 9:38 pm

WAY too much done. She just needed a tune up.
And her character on L&O was awful. Thank god it didn’t last long.

Comment by Anon — October 29, 2009 at 4:28 am

Oh geez. She should have just smoothed out a few lines. Instead she looks stuffed and expressionless…really creepy.

Comment by Paige — October 29, 2009 at 4:05 pm

I just checked on imdb and I can’t believe she’s 59!! I think she looks fantastic, both before and after her “refreshing”.

Comment by Joan — October 30, 2009 at 11:38 am

She didn’t need it. Was channel surfing and caught a glimps of the L&O and was wondering what was wrong with her. Too Bad!

Comment by candicepantz — October 31, 2009 at 9:17 am

At least Christine is still recognizable. Can’t say the same for many who go the “freshen up” route…

Comment by Terry — October 31, 2009 at 2:01 pm

Listen up: The photos do NO show her as the freak she is. You had to have seen her on TV. She looked absolutely hideous, as though her faced were stuffed and then paralyzed – so sad that women mutilate themselves like this for vanity!

Comment by Sarah — November 2, 2009 at 3:56 pm

No one has mentioned the obvious surgery to correct her gummy smile.

Comment by jp — November 2, 2009 at 4:28 pm

I’ve liked her since Jack & Bobby. Was horrorfied to see her on L&O and like a previious reader was also really distracted trying to figure out what she did. LADIES – CHEEK IMPLANTS make YOU LOOK like CAT WOMAN!!

Comment by gds92115 — November 2, 2009 at 8:58 pm

i dont think she looks all that different. she looks good in both pics. she was never known for being a great beauty, but a very attractive woman. if she has had plastic surgery, so what. it is hardly awful.

Comment by snickers — November 4, 2009 at 3:08 am

Married… with Children? She’s had the “Katey Sagal” makeover. What a shame (no offence to Peg Bundy intended).

Comment by arabella — November 8, 2009 at 9:47 pm

the work’s not bad but not really an improvement either….neither here nor there.

Comment by Swedish — November 9, 2009 at 10:07 am

I think she looks good

Comment by Pickle Juice — November 9, 2009 at 4:14 pm

She’s almost 60, give her a break. Her makeover is not over the top, she looks refreshed.

Comment by Boof — November 11, 2009 at 7:33 am

Caucasian people tend to look wrecked by the time they are 30, thanks to all the sun-tanning. Just go with it gracefully, people. Looking like a wax chipmunk is not cute.

Comment by Jenny Ondioline — November 25, 2009 at 4:37 pm

I haven’t seen her on L&O, so I don’t know how her face looks in motion. But judging by these pix I’d say she looks great! Especially compared to the plastic surgery disasters plastered all over this site. I do think she looked better before the surgery, and I’ve always liked her face the way it was, but IMHO this is really good plastic surgery.

Comment by kellygrl — January 14, 2010 at 9:36 pm

she looks fine. next!

Comment by Cheri — January 16, 2010 at 4:11 pm

I think she looks good. Pretty before, pretty now. She looks softer now, less lines. It was subtle, and not overdone work.

Comment by christie lee — February 8, 2010 at 12:11 am

she looks hard and eww

Comment by Ray Butlers — February 18, 2010 at 9:53 pm

I wanted to cry when I saw her on Law and Order. She is a gorgeous woman and has only gotten more beautiful with age (she was actually a little gawky when she was young). The surgery has turned her famously expressive face into a freakish mask. It ruined her looks and ruined her performance. You can also spot the face lift by the too-high cheeks. Nobody has cheeks like that past 40. Also, take note: she does the voiceover for Oil of Olay commercials in which she claims that face cream is just as effective as plastic surgery.

Comment by Shannon — February 24, 2010 at 1:48 am

She looked terrible on the show. Her lips look like they’ve been loaded up with collagen in addition to everything else. The tragedy is that she looked great on Studio 60 just a few years ago.

Comment by Jessica — March 1, 2010 at 7:39 pm

She doesn’t look like she gt any plastic surgery done because all the prominent wrinkles are still there it’s jst the lighting and graininess oof the after pic-I believe she DID get micro-dermabrasion though because some of the finer wrinkles are gone and her skin’s texture is smoother.
